Summary
A young teen, Garrett, is taken away from his home one night because his parents believe him to be out of control. He is taken to a boot camp designed to correct troubled teenagers of their erratic behavior through any means. This boot camp, Lake Harmony, has a promising track record and promises parents they will "fix" their children in less than two years. Garrett quickly realizes this camp has no problem with abusing their residents physically or mentally in order to achieve results.
After his first few months at the camp, Garrett begins to conform to the rules of the camp. Over countless hours of punishment he has come to the realization that in order for him to get out of the camp, he is going to have to play by their rules. This is until one of his friends, Pauly, tells him a plan they have to escape. When the moment is right, Garrett, Sarah, and Pauly somehow find there way out of the camp and on their way to Canada. However they are not in the clear yet. They are still being hunted down by Lake Harmony.

Learning to Survive
"Until you turn eighteen, you are not considered an individual. And you have no rights"(106).
This quote is meaningful to the story and the real world because of the significance it holds. There are many instances where teenagers are given adult responsibilities yet they are not treated with the respect of one. I understand how this does not apply to every situation. However when it is as serious as being sent away to a camp against your will, I believe the teenagers side should at least be listened to before an action is made.

Boot camps should not be legal as they are a cruel form of punishment that do the opposite of what they say and that are only in it for a profit.
